PhantomBuster

PhantomBuster is primarily a sales automation tool but can serve multiple purposes. It can help you greatly facilitate your work when dealing with data or need help boosting your engagement on social media.

A phantom works like an API route. You send an input, and it returns an output. For example, you give the URL of a Linkedin post, and the phantom returns a list of Linkedin profiles that have commented on that post.

The phantom library is very deep, and this is a real feature of Phantombuster, which offers very “atomic” things to allow you to get only what you want and imagine original things.

The design of the phantoms is also very efficient. For each imaginable object on Linkedin (post, people, company, comment, invitation, …), each possible action is available in the form of a phantom. This is a real particularity of Phantombuster, compared to other more “packaged” solutions, which are much more rigid because they are focused on use cases imagined by the product team. If you don’t particularly want to reinvent the wheel, PhantomBuster also offers ready-made workflows, most of which are quite well thought out.

Here’s one example of how we used PhantomBuster for sending out personalized video messages at scale.

Platforms: web + Chrome extension

Key features:

  • Extract lists of leads
  • Enrich data and emails
  • Send automated outreach campaigns via Linkedin
  • Social media automation
  • Scrape data from LinkedIn, Sales Navigator, Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, GitHub, and Google Maps.

Search Engines as Sourcing Tools

If you ever got tired of the ads you might encounter in Google results, are concerned about your searches being tracked, or just don’t see the relevant results try using DuckDuckGo. It’s more of a search results aggregator that contains the compilation of many sources such as Yahoo, Bing, and Google, only unfiltered and unbiased. You can also use it from a Chrome extension or download a mobile app.

  • Yahoo. An experiment showed that Yahoo generates more relevant results with a slightly higher relevancy degree of 4.8 than Google’s 4.6. On the other hand, Google provides much more concise results. But in any case, it’s always worth trying out.
  • Bing Vs Google. This tool allows you to compare both Bing and Google search results side-by-side, as the title implies. That can be especially helpful when experimenting with new X-Ray searches. But keep in mind that some search operators in Bing might work differently.
  • Advangle is also a tool that allows you to create a different search query both for Google and Bing, only this time with fixed operators and with more specific search filters.

Worth mentioning essential search engines are, of course, Google and Bing, which many sourcers and recruiters use on a daily basis. We will have a closer look at the current state of Google and Bing searches on our upcoming features in our sourcing blog, so stay tuned 🙂

Final Thoughts

At Matchr, we are fans of new sourcing resources and tools we regularly share with the community.

With the multitude of sourcing and recruitment tools, we tried to pick out the most relevant ones that we personally tried out at some point and highly recommend you try them out (in case you haven’t by this point).

Indeed, it’s not always easy to stay on top of the game with all the new tools and trends. Especially now when there are not that many groundbreaking tools and techniques emerging. And for the most part, it’s all about updating the existing ones or implementing AI and automation tools into recruiting and sourcing workflows.

However, it’s the mindset behind every tool that makes it really stand out. The recruitment world is still about continuous learning, so keep challenging yourself by asking, “Am I 100% sure of this? How much am I an expert in, say, X-Ray or Linkedin search? How do I test this?” and so on. With that said, our main tip here: always be curious and test your ideas.
